No. Because PN 8202 is an oil-filled canister coil, it must be mounted vertically (upright). Mounting it horizontally can cause internal oil to shift away from the windings, leading to overheating and premature failure. For horizontal or angled mounting, use the epoxy-potted MSD High Vibration coil (PN 8222).

A ballast resistor is not needed when running PN 8202 with an MSD 5, 6, or 7 Series ignition control box or standard modern electronic ignitions. However, if you are installing this coil on a traditional contact points ignition system, a 0.8 Ohm ballast resistor must be wired in series to prevent points burning and coil overheating.

The MSD Blaster 2 coil is highly versatile and compatible with MSD Blaster Ignitions, MSD 5, 6, and 7 Series CD ignition controls, factory electronic ignitions, and points ignitions (with ballast resistor). It is designed to replace factory canister-style coils to provide up to 45,000 Volts of peak spark output.
