Description

ARP 1x Connecting Rod Fastener Bolt, 3/8″ x 1.600″, ARP2000

SKU: AR8900

When pushing an engine to its limits on the track, the drag strip, or in high-stress motorsport applications, standard OEM bolts simply won’t cut it. This single ARP connecting rod fastener is manufactured from premium ARP2000 alloy, delivering unparalleled reliability and fatigue resistance.

Capable of achieving a massive tensile strength of 220,000 psi, this 3/8″ x 1.600″ 12-point bolt is the performance standard chosen by top-tier engine builders worldwide. It is designed to secure aftermarket uprated connecting rods in modified powerplants where high RPMs and extreme cylinder pressures are the norm.

Important Fitment & Ordering Notes:

  • Sold Individually: This listing is for a single bolt only. Each connecting rod requires 2 bolts, so please ensure you select the correct total quantity for your build (e.g., order 8 bolts for a 4-cylinder engine).

  • Aftermarket Rods Only: This fastener is specifically designed for aftermarket performance con-rods and will not fit OEM connecting rods.

ARP Connecting Rod Bolt Material Overview

  • 8740 CHROME MOLY: 8740 chrome moly is seen as a good tough steel, with adequate fatigue properties for most racing applications, only if the threads are rolled after heat-treatment, as is ARP’s standard procedure. Chrome moly can be heat-treated to deliver tensile strengths between 180,000 and 200,000 psi.

  • ARP2000: ARP2000 is a steel alloy that can be safely heat-treated to a higher level than 8740. While 8740 and ARP2000 share similar characteristics – ARP2000 is capable of achieving a tensile strength of 220,000 psi. Stress corrosion and hydrogen embrittlement are typically not a problem.

  • L19: L19 is a very high strength material capable of delivering a tensile strength at 260,000 psi. L19 requires special care to avoid hydrogen embrittlement. This material is easily contaminated and subject to stress corrosion. It must be kept well-oiled and not exposed to moisture.

  • ARP3.5 (AMS5844): The high cobalt content of this alloy, while expensive, delivers a material with superior fatigue characteristics and typical tensile strength in the 260,000–280,000 psi range. The immunity to hydrogen embrittlement and corrosion is a significant design consideration. This material is primarily used in connecting rods where extremely high loads, high RPM and endurance are important factors.

  • CUSTOM AGE 625+: This super-alloy demonstrates superior fatigue life, tensile strength and toughness – with complete resistance to atmospheric corrosion and oxidation. ARP is the first to develop manufacturing and testing processes for fasteners with Custom Age 625+. Typical tensile strength is 260,000–280,000 psi.
